Series: Harry Potter Worn to: OotP/HBP/DH book & movie releases Status: Active Difficulty: 2/5
I LOVE the Harry Potter series so much and having my own set of Hogwarts robes was one of my inspirations for getting into cosplay in the first place.
This costume ended up going through 3 stages. The first version was made for Cosplaylab's Harry Potter costume contest. My mom made me the robes (I did not know how to sew yet) and the sweater was a plain gray sweater from Old Navy with ribbon attached to the front. I didn't win the contest but it was worth it to finally have my own set of robes!
The second version was made after learning that my dorm-mate Zach was planning to see the movie in costume with a group of friends. I agreed to go with him and upgraded the costume to have more of a Goblet of Fire feel with a new sweater, altered robes, and new tie. Although the costume was poorly constructed, I had SO much fun wandering the streets of Chicago with 12 other people in Hogwarts robes.
The final version of the costume was made for the Deathly Hallows book release. I completely remade the robes out of black linen and lined them in a burgundy cotton. I finally coughed up the money for an official tie and sweater and simply found a matching skirt.
I don't think I will ever stop liking Harry Potter; I love this costume and all it stands for.
