Why I made it

I LOVE the Harry Potter series so much and having my own set of Hogwarts robes was one of my inspirations for getting into cosplay in the first place.

How I made it

This costume ended up going through 3 stages. The first version was made for Cosplaylab's Harry Potter costume contest. My mom made me the robes (I did not know how to sew yet) and the sweater was a plain gray sweater from Old Navy with ribbon attached to the front. I didn't win the contest but it was worth it to finally have my own set of robes!

The second version was made after learning that my dorm-mate Zach (Strippervash) was planning to see the movie in costume with a group of friends. I agreed to go with him and upgraded the costume to have more of a Goblet of Fire feel with a new sweater, altered robes, and new tie. Although the costume was poorly constructed, I had SO much fun wandering the streets of Chicago with 12 other people in Hogwarts robes.

The final version of the costume was made for the Deathly Hallows book release. I completley remade the robes out of black linen and lined them in a burgundy cotton. I finally coughed up the money for an offical tie and sweater and simply found a matching skirt.

Final thoughts

I don't think I will ever stop liking Harry Potter. I love this cosutme and all it stands for.
