Sakura has always been one of my favorite characters and I have wanted to cosplay one of her Tsubasa costumes for years. I chose to make this particular costume because it's quite different from the rest of her Tsubasa outfits and the bead-work and gradients are really beautiful.
I started off with a bridal pattern and modified the skirt quite a bit to match the look of the artwork. The bodice is actually comprised of several layers - the white top layer, a purple layer underneath, a layer of denim to house the steel boning and a purple lining layer. The butterfly and sash were made from a sturdy pink-ish satin and covered with a layer of silk chiffon, which I dyed using RIT magenta and purple dyes to achieve the gradients. the white details are pleather, which I cut using an exacto knife. The white details on the butterfly were patterned out using paper and tape, then cut out using pleather to ensure there wouldn't be any seams.
The headpiece is two layers - a white piece and a piece of chiffon which are both snap into the wig with wig clips. The beading actually took a lot longer than I thought. I used about a million packs of yellow glass beads and sewed them on by hand. They're a but smaller than they should be but it's nothing I can't live with.
